After a long drive from the Grand Canyon stopping briefly at the Hoover Dam, a spot of R and R was in order. A couple of hours chillin’ by the pool at the 'understated' Luxor Hotel, saw the sun go down and the Strip come alive.Everything about Las Vegas changes after dark as the crowds come out, the lights come on and the excitement levels soar.

The Strip after Dark
Much of the Strip has been rebuilt in recent years, with the emphasis being on fantasy architecture. Facimilies of Egyptian Pyramids, Camelot, New York, the Eiffel Tower and the Venice waterfront will be found alongside more established hotels such as Caesars Palace and the Bellagio.Whilst the primary function may be gambling most of the hotels have a variety of shops, restaurants and other attractions.

Las Vegas by Day
With just a single full day in town, it was time to follow an itinerary starting at the Luxor and working North along the Strip, taking in the many attractions on offer, from the Lions at the MGM, the fun fair atop NYNY, the fountains at the Bellagio, fighting pirate ships, scaling the Eiffel Tower and walking the canals at the Venetian.Yes, it might be tacky, gaudy, and brash, but the illusion is well done and the atmosphere is great fun. Visiting Las Vegas is definitely one of those items to tick off the ‘Bucket List’.
