Aside from the artistic community, Sedona has a burgeoning New Age population based around a reputation for spiritual energy, known locally as Vortices. Sedona plays host to 4 main vortex sites: the Airport Mesa Vortex, the Bell Rock Vortex, the Boynton Canyon Vortex and the Cathedral Rock Vortex. A vortex is claimed to be a place where the Earth’s energy swirls, drawing material items to its centre. On the ground this is claimed to be manifest in the twisted trunks of trees growing within the vortex.
